Prof Dr Amit Thapa

Prof Dr Amit Thapa is a highly accomplished neurosurgeon recognized for his pioneering contributions to the field in Nepal. With an MBBS, MS in General Surgery, and MCh in Neurosurgery, he is also an International Fellow of the American Association of Neurosurgical Societies and has completed specialized training in brain and spine endoscopy.
A trailblazer in his profession, Dr. Thapa has introduced innovative techniques such as fluorescence-based micro-neurosurgery, robotic surgery, endoscopic skull base surgery, and minimally invasive spine surgery, transforming the landscape of neurosurgical practice in Nepal. He has also been instrumental in integrating Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) into neurosurgery and the neurosurgical ICU, enhancing patient care and outcomes.
His clinical expertise includes leading the largest series of brachial plexus injury repairs in the country. Beyond his surgical practice, Dr. Thapa has made significant contributions to medical literature as the chief editor of the Nepal Journal of Neurosciences and has held leadership positions, including Chairman of the Spine Section and Vice-President of the Nepalese Society of Neurosurgeons (NESON).
